New Craft Room Tool

My son recently got a kitten. It's my own fault. They had kittens out in front of WalMart, and I couldn't resist the little orange Tabby. Pooky is about 10 weeks old now. I think they took him away from his mother too early. He was probably only about 4 weeks old when we got him. He's doing well though. He's curious and gets into everything! He gets up on my craft table and makes it difficult to do my stamping. He plays, knocks things over, pushes things off the table, and wants to get on my lap to play! I had to find something to keep him busy. Here's what I did: I tied a big plastic bead to a piece of ribbon and used a safety pin to attach it to the back of a folding chair. It dangles below the chair back, and he really enjoys batting it around.His name is "Pooky". That's the name of Garfield's toy Teddy Bear. I found out that most orange Tabby Cats are male. He was the only orange kitten in his litter. The rest were white. In the photo above, you can he's got a hold of that bead.

I had to lie on the floor (not so easy for an old lady with R.A.!) and face up to get this photo, but I wanted you to see his cute little face with those yellow eyes. You can see the bead at the end of the ribbon. This "Tool" keeps him busy while I make my cards!!

Love Make-Over (CAS30)

The Clean & Simple Challenge was a Make-over challenge. I chose to make over the card shown at the right. It was for a sketch challenge as well as a color challenge. I think I got carried away with that one! It just has too much "stuff" on it. I must have been trying to use some new toys all on one card! The sketch was nice but didn't need so many embellishments.

When I made it over into a Clean and Simple card, I didn't use the designer paper (which was part of the sketch) and I eliminated one matted panel (also part of the sketch). I also deleted the leaves and flowers. The ribbon and punched piece went with the designer paper. Now, all I have is the embossed layer, the main image panel, matted, and the butterfly. August Stamp Camp Projects

Have you missed me? I've been busy the last few days! I was preparing for Stamp Camp, having the ladies over for stamp camp on Friday and Saturday, and I've been editing for my daughter's E-magazine which takes up a lot of time. I thought I'd post the projects we did for Stamp Camp this weekend since I haven't had time to do any of the challenges for the past few days.
For Stamp Camps, we do two each of five designs for a total of ten cards. So many of the ladies never send out the cards they make at our club meetings, so I tell them, "Keep one and mail the other!" Project #1 was two different colors and two different stamps. The stamps came from Michael's $1 bin. I even bought extras and let the ladies choose which one they'd like to keep. The spiders were plastic rings that I just cut the ring part off. I embossed the colored panels with the Cuttlebug "Spiderweb" embossing folder.

Project #2 was stamped with "Halloween Hoot" stamp set and water colored with Water Color Wonder Crayons and Aqua Painters. We drew in the grass with a Garden Green Marker. The card is sponged around the edges and the main image panel and mat was distressed and sponged as well. On the inside, an owl was stamped and the sentiment, "Halloween is a Hoot!"

Project #3 is the same card I made for a Clean & Simple Challenge which is also in an earlier post. I had a request to do a masculine get well card, so I just CASEd myself!

Project #4 was stamped with Black Stazon and colored with Water Color Pencils. We used Baby Oil and a Blender Pen to blend the colors and smooth them out. The base card is Dusty Durango, and the mat is Sahara Sand. The designer paper is Delicate Dots (2009 SAB). The Dusty Durango Ribbon was added with a knot. The stamp set was "Happy Blessings" from the 2008 Holiday Mini Catalog. It's been sold. Everything on this card is from Stampin' Up!

Project #5 was very simple, yet it turned out so pretty! The main image (from the 2009 Holiday Mini Catalog) was stamped with Timber Brown on Very Vanilla and then matted on Soft Suede. The corners were punched with the Ticket Corner Punch. A colored rhinestone was added. The Crushed Curry layer was embossed with the Cuttlebug Pumpkins embossing folder and adhered to a Soft Suede base card. The inside was lined with Very Vanilla and stamped with a small fruit bowl and a sentiment. Thanks so much for stopping by!!

Vintage Girl (WT233)

The Ways To Use It Challenge was to use something vintage or vintage looking on our cards. I chose this image of the little girl because I think she might have come from before the turn of the century, and I used Spellbinders Classic Frame and stenciled it because it looks vintage to me. This is for the Sketch Challenge on SCS. I don't know why the photo has a pinkish tinge to it, but it's too late now. Maybe it's my camera. Anyway, I didn't think I'd like this sketch at first because of the triangle, but stamping the floral branch in the blank area at the top worked out well, I think. I needed a sympathy card for our youth group's leader. His mother passed away on Monday night. Green symbolizes immortality or eternal life, so that's where I was going with the color combo. OK, this is for Mothermark's Teapot Tuesday Challenge which is the challenge I've come to really enjoy! This challenge is also listed in a thread on Splitcoaststampers.com. I think it might become a regular Tuesday Challenge there just like the Clean & Simple Challenge did. Anyway, this week's teapot is a British Cop or Bobby. The theme of the challenge is CLUE! I'm sure you've heard of that game. The tea party is supposed to be held at Tudor Mansion, and we're supposed to bring our evidence or CLUEs. Today's Clean & Simple Challenge was an inspiration challenge. We were to be inspired by shoes or bags at Anthropologie. I found my inspiration with this Horned Owl Tote. I've seen a similar layout online with the drawn square and sentiment, but the sentiment was at the bottom. I made mine a fall theme, distressed and dirtied it up a bit. There you go - manly!! LOL! The maple leaves were punched and sponged, and the main image and sentiment panels were distressed. August Ladies' Night Out Projects

Project #1 this Friday will be this card where we will focus on water coloring. The colors are all from the Earth Elements family and I used Water Color Wonder Crayons in the same family. The only non-SU! product is the Cuttlebug embossing folder. I kept this simple so we'd have plenty of time to work on the water coloring.

I'll Cook! (MMTPT60)

This is for Mothermark's Teapot Tuesday Challenge. Here's the deal: We're all headed to Peggy's Cove in Nova Scotia today. Cindy has procured the only available accommodations in the area, a lighthouse! There's lots of tourists there, so this is the best she could do. Now, the light house keepers just want 42,000 pounds of fish as payment. Well, they can't eat ALL those fish, and the tea partiers have to eat, too, so I volunteered to cook. I went out early this morning to catch some fish and caught a really nice one. I think it will feed ALL the partiers!! I just need some help getting it to shore!

CAS Design Team Challenges

Challenge #1 was a sketch challenge. The stamping was directly on the base card, concentrated in the lower right corner, and there was a ribbon at the top. I stamped one dragonfly with Versamark only and the other with Versamark and Taken With Teal, then I embossed with Clear Embossing Powder. After that, I stamped the grass and rubbed the ink off of the blue dragonfly (Emboss Resist Technique). Finally, I added the ribbon and charm. All products except for the charm are from Stampin' Up!

Challenge #3 was to make a fall card or a fall holiday card. Obviously, I picked Halloween for my fall holiday theme. The sheer orange ribbon came from an online friend of mine who is one of the Twisted Sistahs, patsmethers. What a sweetheart she is!

I couldn't find the Martha Stewart Fence Punch in the Reno/Sparks stores, so Pat went to one of the stores near her in Fresno, bought the punch and mailed it to me in a pretty box with the orange ribbon, some felt butterflies, a felt flower, and a whole spool of sheer polka dot brown ribbon! I used the new fence punch to embellish the inside of my Halloween card. The ghosts are from the same set as the skeleton, but the sentiment is a 2/$1 stamp I got a couple of years ago at Michael's. For today's Inspiration Challenge, I was inspired by the Melamine Plates at a site called Curiosity Shoppe, especially the plate in the upper left of the photo. I also used the Recessed Window technique for the first time. It's an interesting design. The main image was embossed with red embossing powder. Stampin' Up! used to have embossing powders in many colors. I used a ribbon slider from the Vanilla Hodgepodge Hardware with the Real Red grosgrain ribbon. Snowflakes in August (TSC0814)

Our Twisted Sistahs Challenge for this week was to make a Christmas card (Christmas in August) with non-traditional colors. I think the new designer specialty paper in the Holiday Mini Catalog called, "Christmas Cocoa", is non-traditional already. The background looks like a light shade of Soft Suede or maybe Close to Cocoa, and, of course, the snowflakes are white. This is a Clean and Simple card, too. I just added a piece of the patterned paper to a Naturals White base card, added two punched snowflakes on top of that, embellished the snowflakes with gold half pearls, and finished it off with Kraft Taffeta Ribbon. This is for today's Sketch Challenge. I like it because the two vertical panels behind the main image panel allow you to use some patterned papers. The paper I used was last year's Halloween paper, Ghostly Greetings. The base card is Pumpkin Pie, all matting is Basic Black, and the main image panel is Old Olive. The pumpkins were stamped on a strip of Whisper White, water colored, cut out and adhered to the panel vertically. The actual stamp is a row of Jack-o-lanterns that are horizontal. This is for Mothermark's Teapot Tuesday Challenge. This week's teapot was the cutest bee! Cindy made a card that looked just like the teapot! This image is actually a coloring page I found online. I changed the wording on the sign! I used SU! Markers as well as Water Color Wonder Crayons and an Aqua Painter to color the image. The sentiment came from an SU! set, Just Buzzin' By. Asian Vase (IC192)

This should have been posted yesterday, but I got busy and forgot! The Inspiration Challenge was Bellacor Vases. I chose this vase for my inspiration. I didn't print out a picture or anything. I just remembered that the vase was brown with gold trim and had flowers of fall colors. I was going to use the Little Leaves Sizzlit and cut out gold leaves but decided to do some heat embossing instead. I added the punched, sponged and embossed flowers with mini half pearl centers. That's it!

Now, certain card stocks are a bit pricey to be using a big chunk of it to make a thin border or mat. I cut my Brushed Gold card stock to the size I wanted for the mat and then used a rectangle Nestability to cut out the center part. That gives me a piece of the gold card stock to use later.

Our Twisted Sistahs Challenge this week was a Featured Stamper type challenge. We were to CASE one of our Twisted Sistahs. Our Featured Stamper was Purty Bratty Barbie. I chose this card to CASE. It was the first upload in her gallery from over two years ago. I used to have the set she used, but I sold it. It was a cute set, too. I changed the stamp set using Beary Best Friends which will be available from the Holiday Mini Catalog beginning September 1, 2009. I love those little bears!! I also changed the base card color and the ribbon. I kept the layout because I thought it was so cute, and I even had the same DCWV Mat Stack card stock for the vertical panel! Vellum Fan (WT230)

The Ways To Use It Challenge was to use pleating in our design. I cut a circle out of vellum, cut the circle in half, stamped it, and then pleated it to make a fan. It works well with the Asian Artistry Hostess Set. The base card here is Basic Black with a layer of Real Red that has been embossed with SU!'s Texturz Plate - Flourish. The main image is stamped on Whisper White with Black Stazon. My Stazon needs to be re-inked, so I went over it with a black journaling marker. I combined yesterday's Color Challenge colors with today's Sketch Challenge. I had the papers on my craft table, so I decided to use them for this sketch. The base card is Blush Blossom with an embossed layer of Certainly Celery. The horizontal border punched strip is Whisper White with a Whisper White Taffeta Ribbon across the top of it. The matting is Blush Blossom. The designer paper in the circle is something I've had for years, and I don't know the name or vendor. The sentiment was stamped in Versamark and then in Close to Cocoa, then it was embossed with clear embossing powder. The leaves were made using the Sweetest Stem Embosslit and the flowers were punched with the Flower Trio Punch, sponged and embossed. I added mini half pearls to the flower centers. Goofy Stuff (CC230, MMTPT58)

Here's a challenge combo: Color Challenge using Close to Cocoa, Blush Blossom, Certainly Celery, Cameo Coral (Optional), and Whisper White (Also optional). I used Close to Cocoa for the base card and matting, Whisper White for the embossed layer, Blush Blossom for the main image panel and sentiment panel, Certainly Celery for the leaves, and Cameo Coral for the flowers. The other challenge is Mothermark's Teapot Tuesday Challenge. This week, the teapot is a cow. Cindy said that Dawn (Flowergal36) asked her to use cows, so she did. I got my Dancing Daisy from Microsoft Office Online Clip art (I have no cow images; go figure!). The teapot in her hand (hoof) is clip art, too. Friday's Limited Supplies Challenge was to use die cuts as a focal point. You could only use one stamp for a sentiment OR for making a background. I didn't get a chance to participate in the challenge on Friday, but I thought today's Mojo Monday Sketch Challenge would work to combine the two challenges. First of all, the circle (white, orange and gold) is my die cut. It's a punch out from a Media Pack I got on sale at WalMart for scrap booking. I added the flower and brad for more interest. CASEing Teresa (FS130)

This week's Featured Stamper is va.sunshine. I've always admired Teresa's work. I was inspired by this card. It was a sketch challenge card, so I changed the layout by eliminating one panel. Instead of DP, I used an embossed panel, but I used the same embossing folder as Teresa did on her middle layer. I changed the colors but kept the winter/holiday theme. I also left off the punched circles and used a different ribbon.
