Pinks (WSC64)

The photo at the right shows the layout for Beate's Weekend Sketch Challenge. Funny, I haven't done the Limited Supplies Challenge on SCS today, but I've done two of my online friends' blog challenges! Whatever suits your fancy, I guess.

I wanted mine to be very feminine, so I used the Martha Stewart Doily Lace Border Punch for my scallops at the top and bottom. Then, I went with shades of pink. The base card is Pink Pirouette. The designer paper is pink on pink polka dots from the Georgia Peach DSP; it's matted on Pixie Pink. The ribbon is Pretty In Pink Taffeta Ribbon. I stamped the butterfly with Pixie Pink on white twice, punched one out with the 1-3/8" Circle Punch, and I cut out the other, minus the antenna. I was going to put a sentiment panel on this, possibly made with ovals, but I decided to leave it alone and put a sentiment inside when I use the card. Thanks again for visiting today!

Thanksgiving Button Flower (ssnotime59)

Sharon's (aka notimetostamp) Stamp Simply Challenge is called "Button Up For Winter". We were to make a fall themed card and incorporate a button in the design. My button is the flower center. The base card is Old Olive with a layer of plaid designer paper from DCWV. The paper is stitched on using the zig-zag stitch on my sewing machine. I used rectangle and scalloped rectangle Nestabilities to make the main image panel and mat. The Naturals Ivory piece is sewn on the More Mustard scalloped piece using the same zig-zag stitch as before. The scarecrow is stamped with Stazon Jet Black and water colored. I used the sewing machine to sew the orange button to the flower, and I added orange and mustard branches punched with the Martha Stewart Punch. Cracked Journey (WT190)

For the Ways To Use It Challenge, we were to get crackle in our designs. I used the Cracked Glass Technique. I've never done it before, but it's really easy. First, you stamp your image on card stock. Next, you ink the entire panel with Versamark. Then, you sprinkle liberally with Glassy Glaze embossing powder and melt with the heat tool. Ink it again with Versamark and emboss a second time with the Glassy Glaze, and it will come out smooth and shiny. Put it in the freezer for a couple of minutes. After it's completely cooled, take it out of the freezer and bend it in several places to make the cracks. Sponge the cracks so they will show more and rub off excess ink with a paper towel. If it becomes dull, just heat it up with the heat tool one more time, and the shine will come right back. I kept the card pretty simple to highlight the image and the cracked glass technique. Party! (SC200)

The layout at the right is today's Sketch Challenge layout. I wound up making a card that was very similar to the one I made for the Color Challenge yesterday. I used the same stamp set and only changed from Pixie Pink to Tempting Turquoise. I guess the ribbon really determined the color combo. It has yellow, hot pink, orange, turquoise, lime green, and chocolate brown. I think I got that ribbon as a gift. There's six rolls in the package, but each roll only has 12 inches of ribbon on it! It took a whole roll to do the strip and the bow!!!

The base card is Kiwi Kiss. The top panel is Tangerine Tango embossed with Spots n' Dots. The bottom panel is Tempting Turquoise embossed with Traffic Jam. I used ink pads and Blender Pen to color that stamp and huffed before stamping. I used several punches on this one as well. Thanks for stopping by today!!!

"B" Is For Birthday (CC190)

Today's Color Challenge was to use Pixie Pink, Tangerine Tango, and Kiwi Kiss. I can't remember why, but I had several pieces of Pixie Pink that were already embossed, so I started with that. The base card is Tangerine Tango with a layer of Kiwi Kiss and then the embossed Pixie Pink panel. I stamped the hats with Tangerine and cut them out and adhered them to 1" punched circles matted on 1-1/4" punched circles. The main image is stamped with pink and matted on the Kiwi and then the Tangerine. The satin ribbon and knot were added to the embossed panel before adhering to the mat. I finished it off by doing some "Faith Dots". I call them that because one lady on SCS whose name is Faith does them all the time. Thanks for stopping by today!

Thoughts & Prayers (WSC63, CFC02)

I haven't been doing the Technique Lover's Challenge lately because I haven't had all the supplies needed and I just can't get to the store yet. I'm on crutches now, so it won't be long until I'm using a cane and then walking without such devices! I decided to do one more card for the Cards For a Cause which is to send cards to "Chemo Angels" for breast cancer patients who are on chemotherapy. I used Beate's Weekend Sketch Challenge for this. The layout it shown at the right.

The base card is Pretty In Pink with a layer of Basic Black and Bella Rose DSP over that. The main image is stamped on white and then sponged and matted on black. The sentiment from "Always In My Thoughts" is stamped with black, punched with the 1-1/4" Circle Punch, matted on black that was punched with the 1-3/8" Circle Punch, and finally adhered to the pink that was punched with the Scallop Circle Punch. I used two different ribbons rather than paper or card stock for the horizontal trim and finished the card off with three pink rhinestones. Thanks for stopping by!!!

CASEing Kay (FS90)

This week's Featured Stamper is Kay (aka SpeedyStamper). She has a terrific gallery. Her card that I chose to CASE is shown at left. I changed the colors which includes the card stock, DSP, Ribbon, and Brads. I changed the theme by changing the stamp set (sentiment only for mine), and I changed the flower to a wreath.

This card starts out with a Real Red base card with a layer of Old Olive and then a piece of Holiday Treasures designer paper matted on red. I used the smallest Nestabilities to create the sentiment panel. I used the Martha Stewart Branches Punch with three shades of green to create the wreath. This card is a bit busier than my usual, but I went out of the box for sure! Thanks for stopping by!

Happy Fall

I didn't get around to making anything else yesterday; I just didn't have it in me. I always think I can do more than I actually can! LOL! Well, today's a new day! I'm in a special swap where we all have secret pals and there are certain things we must send. One of the items we are required to send is an autumn themed card in our secret pal's favorite fall colors. My secret pal likes rust and reds. She also likes distressing. The designer paper, black mat, and embossed Ruby Red layers are all distressed. The Ruby Red base card is just sponged. I basically made an ATC and just put it in the center of the card. One pumpkin and all three leaves are popped up. The sentiment panel was made with small Nestabilities. I hope she likes this!

Another item we are required to send is an altered item. I covered a journal with Bella Rose DSP and added the rose in the upper left corner. There's a pink satin ribbon for a book mark. I'm going to use my Big Shot and Sizzix "Round About" alphabet set to make the letters of her first name in Riding Hood Red on Kiwi Kiss punched squares, but I didn't want to photograph it with the name on it yet because she might see it, and that would give the whole thing away!!!

I decided to make her this package of Card Candy as an extra gift. It sort of goes with the next item as well. These were all stamped with "Deer Friends" (Level 2 Hostess Set) and punched with the 1-1/4" Circle Punch. The 1-3/8" Circle Punch and the Scallop Circle Punch were also used to create the matting.

Now, do you see how the card candy ties in with this? First, Card Candy, then REAL Candy!!! LOL! The third item we were to send was supposed to be our secret pals' favorite snacks. My secret pal had two favorites; one was Snickers. I like those, too, so my hubby bought them so I'd have a few left over for me!!!

The final item that we're supposed to send is a silly item. I'm never very good at those. I haven't been able to go shopping either. My hubby found these candle holders, and he just knew I'd like them. The witch's hat is a tea light candle holder. The green one with the jack-o-lanterns can also hold tea light candles but is intended for votive or larger candles, I think. I made the package of tea light candles to go with the candle holders. They are pumpkin spice scented. Now, why is this silly? The tentative date for the revealing of all the secret pals is not until November 11th. I'm putting a note with this that says, "Only 354 days until Halloween!" I hope she gets a laugh out of that!! Thanks for visiting my blog today!!!

Get Well Soon (IC151)

I have missed a few challenges because I've been busy getting ready for my October Stamp Camp. Other than that, I've been recuperating from my surgery and getting stronger every day. Now that the Stamp Camp is over, I can get back to those challenges! Today's Inspiration Challenge was to use pink bedding from J C Penney's as our inspiration. There were plenty of items from which to choose. The photo at the right shows a pillow sham from which I drew my inspiration.

I know most of the challenge cards this week are going to "Chemo Angels", and I have a couple going there as well, but we have a friend who had to be taken from Reno to San Francisco for emergency brain surgery, so I made her this "Get Well" card. I used rectangle and scalloped rectangle Nestabilities and two different Cuttlebug embossing folders to simulate the quilting in the pillow sham. The flower and leaves were die cut with SU!'s Birds & Blooms Sizzlets on my Big Shot Machine. I also used the Small and Large Oval Punches for the sentiment. Merry Christmas Part 2 Stamp Camp

Merry Christmas Stamp Camp Part 2 is this Friday, and here I am just uploading the projects we will be making! I've been super busy trying to recover from hip replacement surgery plus I've had three events here this past week! Anyway, here are the five projects we will be making.Project #1 is an embossed Christmas tree from "Snow Swirled". It's shown here two ways. We will be making the horizontal one with the fold at the top, but we will emboss with Silver Embossing Powder.

Project #2 is a gift card holder. The base card is Bravo Burgundy with a layer of white that has been embossed with the Cuttlebug Snow Dots embossing folder in my Big Shot Machine. The stamped image was colored with markers, huffed, and stamped; then, it was punched with the 1-1/4" Circle Punch. Bravo Burgundy was punched with the 1-3/8" Circle Punch for a mat. Finally, Handsome Hunter was punched with the Scallop Circle punch to complete the medallion. It was adhered to the Bravo Burgundy Ribbon and a bow was added to the top.

The photo at the right shows the inside of the gift card holder. This is my favorite style of gift card holder and it's popular with my ladies, too. The designer paper came from a DCWV Pack of 12" X 12" papers. The ladies will have a choice of several different papers that coordinate with the Bravo Burgundy. The slot for the gift card is made with the Word Window and Small Oval Punches.

Project #3 is extremely simple yet elegant. I think embossing with silver or gold embossing powders always lends a sense of elegance to any project. The oval and scalloped oval were done with Nestabilities on my Big Shot Machine. The main image panel is popped up on Dimensionals. The background of stars was done with "Background Basics" stars, tone on tone. The inside back is lined with white and the sentiment, "May the true spirit of Christmas fill your heart with peace, your home with love," is stamped on the white. By the way, I took several photos of this card, and for some reason, the embossing came out fuzzy every time. Go figure!

Project #4 starts out with a Very Vanilla base card with a layer of Always Artichoke that has been embossed with the Cuttlebug Holly embossing folder. The main image is stamped with Stazon Jet Black and water colored with Water Color Wonder Crayons and an Aqua Painter. It's matted on Basic Black and both panels are punched with the Ticket Corner Punch and then popped up on Dimensionals. The sentiment is stamped on the inside. Other than the water coloring, this will be a very simple card since I do all the embossing ahead of time.

It seems like we just can't have a Christmas Stamp Camp without snowmen. Project #5 has snowmen from "Holiday Lineup" stamped on white with Stazon Jet Black and then colored with markers. The main image panel is matted on Baja Breeze and popped up on Dimensionals. The designer paper is Ski Slope and is available from the Holiday Mini Catalog. The snowflake border was done with a Fiskars border punch that I've had for years. The base card is Baja Breeze.

I was so busy yesterday with appointments that I couldn't participate in any challenges. It was a tough day. I'm on it today, though! This card is for the Color Challenge which was to use Kiwi Kiss (or Old Olive), Pink Pirouette (or Pretty in Pink), and Chocolate Chip. It's also for the Cards For A Cause Challenge - Chemo Angels. We send our cards in and they go to Chemo Angels who will give them to breast cancer patients who are going through chemotherapy. The base card is Kiwi Kiss with a layer of Bella Rose DSP which is Pink Pirouette. There's a strip of Chocolate Chip that has been punched with the Martha Stewart Doily Lace Border Punch, and a Pretty In Pink ribbon is above that. Oval Nestabilities were used on GP White and the Scalloped Oval was done with Chocolate Chip. The flower stamp was inked with Old Olive and Pretty In Pink, huffed, and stamped on the white oval. For the Limited Supplies Challenge, we could use one piece of designer paper, eyelets and ribbon for the embellishment, and there had to be some blue on the card. My base card is Night of Navy (blue), the designer paper had these old world maps, and I cut one out plus the border. I used eyelets with hemp twine instead of ribbon, though. Penguin In Plaid (WT188)

I just wasn't able to do yesterday's sketch challenge. It was a hard day. I'm up and at 'em today, though! Today's Ways To Use It Challenge was to use plaid. I've used pieces of a 10-year old piece of patterned paper before. It's a red/white plaid with penguins and holly. Using that paper gave me the excuse to make the punch art penguin, too! Here's the punches used to make the penguin:

Well, you haven't heard from me in over a week! Sorry. I had surgery on October 6th, and I came home from the hospital on Thursday night, October 9th. It's taking more time than I thought it would to feel well enough to create anything! Well, here's my first attempt. Today's Color Challenge was to use Pink Pirouette (or Pretty in Pink), Whisper White, and Basic Black. I loved all the cards with the pink and black card stock, but mine only has black ink. I used the Pink Pirouette ink to die two of the flower layers from the Pretties Kit. The "Corsage" is made from Pretties Kit flowers, Whisper White and Pretty in Pink Taffeta Ribbons, Martha Stewart Branches Punch, and hat pin and beads from the Pretties Kit. Thanks for stopping by!

I made some more page layouts for my new scrap book. I may mix them around some, but as of now, this is the first page in the book. There's room for one photo and journaling on the right. If I had a tiny photo that I could cut or punch into a circle, I'd put it in the scallop circle.

Just A Note (FS87)

This week's Featured Stamper is Love Stampin'!!! I like her style. I think it's simple but classy. Her card that I CASEd is shown at the right. Since I just got my oval Nestabilities, I had to find a card with ovals on it! Hers has an additional oval layer on it in Mellow Moss.

I changed the main image stamp and the sentiment. I used the same embossing folder but embossed a separate piece and adhered it to the base card. I moved the ribbon knot over from the right side to the left as well. Thanks for visiting my blog!!!

8-1/2" X 8-1/2" Scrap Book

Stampin' Up! now has an 8-1/2" X 8-1/2" chip board album that you cover with your own paper. The photo at right shows how I covered mine with Sweet Always DSP. I'm thinking of having a special class which would include the album, a package of DSP, and supplies to make five pages, all for just $35!

This page was a make-n-take we did at the convention in July. We used Rose Red card stock that we punched on one edge with the Scallop Edge Border Punch. You can't hardly see in this photo that we stamped the polka dotted butterflies from "Flight of the Butterfly" which was one of our free sets. The Y-O-U was inked with Whisper White Craft ink and the small butterfly was stamped with Old Olive and cut out. The dots were colored in with a white gel pen. The Baha Breeze rectangle is where the photo is supposed to go. On the Olive piece is a felt die cut with a button from Button Bouquet. The More Mustard piece is stamped with the little flower from the set.

When I took this photo, I leaned the page against my album so you see polka dots behind it. I used Pixie Pink card stock that I punched with the Scallop Edge Border Punch on one end. I made a pocket with the Sweet Always DSP on which I added a piece of Only Orange to the top for extra strength. I made a tag to insert in the pocket for journaling. The F-U-N was from my one and only alphabet set from Sizzix which is called "Round About". The scallop circle is one of SU!'s exclusive Bigz Dies. The flowers were all punched and some were embossed. One photo should be placed on the pocket and another (round) should be placed on the scallop circle. All supplies are from Stampin' Up! except the alphabet set.

For today's Inspiration Challenge, we were to base the design of our card on one of the articles of clothing at Harrilu. The minute I saw the home page with that cute giraffe, I knew what I wanted to do. Their giraffe is on a onesie, and it is so cute! It's such a whimsical image!!

There are several punches involved in the making of this card. I also used two Cuttlebug folders. The base card is Chocolate Chip with a layer of So Saffron that is embossed with the Forest Branches folder. The ribbon is Chocolate Chip Taffeta and has the matted scalloped square hanging from the knot. The main image is made entirely from punches. The background is embossed with the Tiny Bubbles folder and sponged. To make the giraffe, I used So Saffron and Chocolate Chip card stock. I sponged the Saffron with Chocolate Chip. Here's what I used:

• Neck: 1/2" strip of So Saffron with 1/2" Circles punched from Chocolate Chip and cut in half
• Head: Key Tag Punch, Small Oval Punch (save pieces punched from sides of head)
• Snout: Key Tag Punch, 1/8" Circle Punch, 1/2" Circle (Punch a crescent and trim ends for smile and save the 1/8" pieces.)
• Ears: Small Oval punched pieces from sides of head
• Horns: Horizontal Slot Punch, 1/8" Circle Punch (1/8" pieces from snout)
• Eyes: 1/4" Circle Punch, 1/8" Circle Punch

The main panel is popped up, and I used a Rhinestone Brad on the scalloped square sentiment. This was a fun card to make! All materials are from Stampin' Up! Thanks for stopping by today!!!

The Ways To Use It Challenge was to use a quote or poem in your design. I didn't use any other stamps other than the sentiment because I wanted to highlight those words. The oval Nestabilities were sent to my by a fellow Splitcoaststamper (I think I sent her some Cuttlebug card fronts in trade.) The base card is Chocolate Chip with a strip of designer paper and then the oval pieces. I added the bling because I just couldn't stand that big blank spot on the card! LOL! Froggie Luv (Mojo55)

Yet another sketch challenge! I have seen a lot of people doing these Mojo Monday sketches, so I thought I'd give it a go. Since the number is 55, these sketches have been around for over a year. Where have I been?!!! LOL! This sketch is for a square card which I don't do all that often, but I'm beginning to like them more and more. Instead of the main image being slightly under that ribbon tab, I put mine on top of it so that I wouldn't cover up my froggie's feet and the panel would be centered.

My card is 5-3/8" square and will fit in Stampin' Up!'s Medium Square envelopes. The base card is Green Galore and is embossed with Sizzix Wild Dashes Texturz plate. The next panel is designer paper from DCWV Fall Pack which is matted tightly on Chocolate Chip card stock. The ribbon is Chocolate Chip Wide Satin Ribbon. The main image was sent to me by an online friend (Tavias Charms). I had admired a card that Lorraine had done, and she was kind enough to offer to stamp a few images and send them to me. I have a surprise going out to her as soon as I can get to the post office. I water colored this sweet froggie and matted the image panel on More Mustard and then on Chocolate Chip. Eastern Beauty (SC196, CC186)

Today's sketch layout is shown at the right. I like this layout with the horizontal, vertical, and horizontal layers overlapping. I used yesterday's challenge colors on this because I like them too. I had to add a bit of green for the leaves though.

The base card is Chocolate Chip with a layer of Baha Breeze that has been run through my Big Shot Machine on the Diagonal Lines Texturz embossing plate. The next layer is Really Rust that is also embossed and matted on Chocolate Chip. The next layer is Green Tea Designer Paper, again matted on the Chocolate Chip. Finally, the main image is stamped on Very Vanilla and water colored. It also has Chocolate Chip Taffeta Ribbon and a punched butterfly. All layers are sponged with Chocolate Chip (even the butterfly), and the main image panel is popped up on Dimensionals. All materials are from Stampin' Up! except for the punched butterfly.
