July 2010 Club Projects

It's that time again! Club is tomorrow and Friday nights. I tried to keep it simple so everyone will have time to browse through the new catalog. Our first project is pretty much a CASE of a card I saw in a recent Stampin' Success magazine. That's a magazine that demonstrators get monthly. I love the colors: Bravo Burgundy, Always Artichoke, and Very Vanilla. I used "Pocket Silhouettes" for the green leaves and "Fresh Cuts" for the sentiment and the burgundy leaves. The ribbon is Bravo Burgundy, and I popped up the sentiment with Dimensionals. In this week's Weekly Inkling from SCS, Beate did a tutorial on these wonderful bookmarks. I've made them before, but I loved her way of doing it.

This photo shows the bookmark when it's actually in place on the corner of a page in a book. I used retiring products for this including some scraps. The base is Almost Amethyst with a triangle of So Saffron and then an Almost Amethyst tilted square. The paper is Tea Party Designer Series Paper with a scalloped strip of Pretty In Pink. The bottom was punched with the Eyelet Border Punch, and I used the Scallop Border Punch on the pink. The ribbon is Pretty In Pink Taffeta. The leaves were cut with the Sweetest Stem Embosslit out of Barely Banana and the flowers were punched and embossed. On the back, there's a white triangle which is stamped with a quote from the "Peace Within" set: "Every day holds the possibility of a miracle. - Elizabeth David." Island Dream (MMTPT100)

Mothermark's Teapot Tuesday Challenge was all about beaches and relaxing. Well, I didn't have much in the way of beach type stamps, so I went online and found this beach scene coloring page, printed it out on white card stock and colored it with Stampin' Up Markers. Someone Cares (CAS73)

The Clean & Simple Challenge was to use the colors in the hostess's signature line which were sort of Pumpkin Pie, Certainly Celery and darker than Bashful Blue. I used Peach Parfait (new In-Color), Pear Pizazz (another new In-Color), and Marina Mist (New Core Color). The base card is Naturals White and the sentiment from "Occasional Quotes" (Level 3 Hostess Set) was stamped with Marina Mist Ink on Whisper White. Everything is from Stampin' Up! CASEing Debbie (FS177)

Today's Featured Stamper is debbiemom23cs. I think I've commented on a couple of Debbie's cards, but I really wasn't all that familiar with her gallery. There's lots of nice stuff there! I was inspired by this card. Here card was all about the technique she used to stamp the floral background, but I was too lazy for that and decided to use some new designer series paper from Stampin' Up! I used new In-Colors, too. Instead of using Nestabilities for the circles, I used punches. The ribbon is Celery Twill Ribbon which I think was in a Sale-A-Bration Bundle. Thanks for stopping by!

New Baby

As promised, here's my newest grandchild, Madeline Mae (Maddy Mae for short). As soon as I get them home yesterday, I took this photo of her in her carrier. She has lots of yellow stuff since we didn't know for sure that she was a girl! That's OK. She looks pretty in yellow!!

TSC Inspiration (TSC0625, C4C43)

The Twisted Sistahs Challenge was to find inspiration around our houses or in our closets. This isn't my shirt; it's my mother's, and I happened to have it hanging in the bathroom for her to wear today. I was inspired by the colors of the flowers.

I'm in a hurry today, so I just took this photo in my Craft Room with some card stock behind it. The flower is from the "Fifth Avenue Floral" stamp set. I used markers to color them. The main image panel is matted on Baja Breeze and the patterned paper also has Baja Breeze (Walk in the Park DSP). The tan piece is embossed with the Cuttlebug Floral Screen, and the base card is Mellow Moss. The ribbon is Kraft (now called Crumb Cake) Taffeta Ribbon. This is also for the Crazy 4 Challenges Challenge which was one of Mercy's fabulous sketches! Everything here, except for the Cuttlebug embossing folder, is from Stampin' Up! She's here!!!

My daughter had her baby yesterday morning! I was there for the whole thing! This was my 11th grandchild, but it was the first one that I actually saw being born! What a miracle!!

Swingin' Summer (CCEE1025, WT276)

First of all, SCS (SplitCoastStampers.com) has changed the rules. If you take a high quality photo, it's too large to upload now. This is probably because they want to increase the speed of uploading, and I can't blame them for that, but it's a pain. You either have to change the settings in your camera to use less Mp's (mega pixels), or you have to re-size the photo after you upload it to your computer. I was resizing. Then, I changed the setting in my camera to the mid-range setting. I think I prefer to take the photos with the highest quality setting and then re-size, even though that takes more time. That way, I can re-size photos for SCS, but use the best quality here. This one was taken with the camera setting changed to mid-range. My next post will have the higher quality setting.

Enough photography talk! This card is for two challenges. First, the CCEE Stampers Challenge is to make a card with a summer theme and use either flowers or floral ribbon. I couldn't resist using more of my little embossed flowers. Besides that, there's flowers on the swing and in the designer paper. This is also for the Ways To Use It Challenge which is to heat emboss. I like the technique where you ink the stamp with Versamark, then in another ink (Almost Amethyst in this case), stamp the image and clear emboss. I did that with the sentiment here. All products used to make this card are from Stampin' Up!

June 2010 Stamp Camp

June Stamp Camp is tomorrow. The first card we will be making was a request. I made this card for a Midnight Madness Sketch Challenge, and one of the ladies saw it and asked that we make it at the next Stamp Camp, so that's what we're doing.

I'm so busy lately taking my daughter to prenatal appointments (No, the baby isn't here yet, and it was due last Saturday!) and trying to get things out of my mom's house so renters can move in. This is for today's Sketch Challenge and it's also going to be one of our projects for this week's Stamp Camp. It's a combination of old and new. The patterned paper is Delicate Dots which was Sale-A-Bration paper in 2009. The "Embrace Life" stamp set is retiring and so is Lovely Lilac. "All a Flutter" is a single stamp which is available from the Summer Mini, and the Square Lattice Impressions Folder is also in the Summer Mini. So Saffron will be a Core Color and Naturals White will continue to be available when the new catalog comes out on July 1, 2010. Everything used to make this card is from Stampin' Up! Purdy Birdie (CC276, MMTPT99)

I missed the challenges yesterday because of appointments. I have more appointments today, but not as early, so I decided to make a card before I leave. This one is for two challenges. First, the Color Challenge is to use Soft Suede, Apricot Appeal, and Almost Amethyst with White or Ivory, and there's a dessert which is to use clips, fasteners or ties. I didn't get to the dessert unless you count Dimensionals as fasteners or bows as ties! The other challenge is Mothermark's Teapot Tuesday Challenge which was to get on the "Birdbrain Train". We were to make cards with birds on them and have the tea party on a train. A partier's mom is celebrating her 75th birthday, so, if we choose to do so, we can mail our card to that lady so that she might get 75 cards. I thought that a lady that is 75 would appreciate lots of flowers along with that birdie! CASEing Pam (FS176)

This week's Featured Stamper is Pam (aka IRIS). Wow! What artwork you will find in her gallery!!! I chose to CASE her WT235 Challenge card, "Housework Stinks!" I changed it from red to yellow, used a different image but tried to keep the country feel, and my gingham ribbon is narrower. I kept her wonderful layout, though. I don't use the Slit Punch to make big scallops; I use Jumbo Scallop Scissors (Fiskars). My image is from the "Country Morning" hostess set. CASEing Linda (QFTD14, C4C42)

This is for the Queen For The Day Challenge and the Crazy 4 Challenges challenge. First of all, the Queen this week is zgirlsgranny. Linda is a very talented stamper. I chose to CASE this card. I think I have the same patterned paper that she used but couldn't find it. I used Nanna's Kids card stock by DCWV. It has glitter on it. The Cuttlebug die under the sentiment was sent to me for my birthday from Pat Smethers. I think this was the first chance I had to use it. I'm glad Linda's card had a similar die cut with the sentiment. Instead of stamping my flowers, I used punched/embossed flowers with tiny half pearls in the center. The Crazy 4 Challenges challenge was to use paper flowers. That covers that! I omitted the photo corners and centered the oval panel and then added a little sheer bow at the bottom. "If you're going to San Francisco, be sure to wear some flowers in your hair." (1967, Scott McKenzie) Do you remember the Mamas and Papas? Yellow and orange decor? Avocado green shag carpet? Green and yellow appliances? Ironing your hair to straighten it? Bell Bottom pants? If you do, then you lived in the 60's and are as old as I am!! LOL! Our Twisted Sistahs Challenge, presented by Shirley (Wannabecreative), was to make cards with a 60's theme. This new designer series paper from Stampin' Up! reminds me of some wallpaper I had in my kitchen in 1966.

Anything Card (SC285)

This is for today's sketch challenge. I made mine 4-1/4" square and it can be used for "Just a Note", "Thank You", "Thinking of You" or just about anything. The base card is Taken With Teal (retiring), the matting is Always Artichoke and the images are stamped on Whisper White with Always Artichoke Ink. The patterned paper is "Sweet Pea", and I used the "Pocket Silhouettes" stamp set. The ribbon is recycled from a gift and the charm came from Mark's Finest Papers. Bus #42000 (MMTPT98)

Mothermark's Teapot Tuesday Challenge was all about a bus in New York City. One of the tea partiers went to New York and rode on bus #42000. This is meaningful to the tea partiers because Mothermark always uses the number "42000" when talking about a big number. Well, we were to go to the tea party in a bus and break all the rules (except the No Smoking rule because we'd probably die from all the smoke from all the partiers inside of a bus). We were to bring pencils to pretend to smoke like Corella DeVil. Well, I had to get to the party somehow, and guess what, I found a school bus with the number 42000, too!! LOL! There's no stamping here; just a Cricut bus. The photography isn't that good because the blue base card is royal blue; sort of like Pacific Point. I left off the sentiment until I decide what it should be. I might give this to my grand daughter who starts Kindergarten in the fall. Thanks for stopping by!!!

Look at this!! Posting two days in a row!! That's really something for me lately! LOL!

The Clean and Simple Challenge had a theme of "Things That Fly" and my Yahoo Group, Stampin Up Late Night Stampers, had a challenge to use our wheels. This worked out well for me! This card took less than 10 minutes and uses two new In-Colors, Blushing Bride and Pear Pizazz. I used the "Flitting By" Jumbo Wheel with Pretty In Pink Jumbo Ink Cartridge. The ribbon is Pretty In Pink Taffeta and the sentiment, stamped in Basic Black, is from the "Water Color Trio" set (Summer Mini). I also used the Scallop Border Punch on the Whisper White strips. CASEing LeAnne (FS175)

I haven't had time to make a card all week! Things have been hectic around here. I take care of my mother who has Alzheimer's Dementia, and we've been moving things out of her house so we can rent it. My daughter is due to have her baby any day now (due June 19th), and we're leaving for a vacation on July 6th. So much to do and so little time!! Anyway, I did get a chance to CASE one of LeAnne Pugliese's cards for the Featured Stamper Challenge. I chose her "OLW8 Because I Care" card because it was a Clean & Simple card and I love the new hostess set. I didn't make mine a one-layer card; instead, I used the Top Note Die and stamped on that piece. I used markers to color the flower and stamped the sentiment with Basic Black. I added a Mellow Moss Taffeta (retired) bow at the top. The markers I used were Blush Blossom and Pear Pazazz. Everything used to make this card came from Stampin' Up! Thanks for stopping by!!

June 2010 Club Projects

Project #1 for this month's club is a masculine card using emboss resist and brayering. I need more practice with the brayer, that's for sure, but the card turned out kind of artsy! LOL! The base card is Basic Black with a layer of Going Gray that has some paper piercing. The main image panel is Whisper White. The "Wanted" sentiment is stamped with Versamark and Really Rust and embossed with Clear Embossing Powder (EP). The horse from the same set is stamped with Versamark and Going Gray with some Basic Black Marker dabbed on the legs and belly. It was also heat embossed with Clear EP. Really Rust is brayered at the top and Going Gray is brayered at the bottom. The sun was masked with a 1/2" circle punched piece and then dabbed with the sponge and Really Rust. A "mountain" shape was torn from a post-it and used for masking. It was sponged with Going Gray and then Basic Gray. Basic Black was sponged at the bottom. Really Rust strips were paper pierced and added to either side of "Wanted". The stars were stamped with Basic Gray on Going Gray and punched with the Small Star Punch, and a Silver Brad was added to the center of each star. All products used to make this card are from Stampin' Up! I tried to CASE a card by Zindorf.

Project #1 is kind of time consuming, so this card is much simpler. I used the Bird On a Branch set and used every stamp. The branch, bird and sentiment were stamped with Basic Black and the background sprinkles and flowers were stamped with Pixie Pink. The base card and one layer of the matting are Pixie Pink, main image panel is Whisper White and the bottom mat is Basic Black. A ribbon tab was made with Black Satin Ribbon and 3 rhinestones were added for extra bling. Everything used to make this card except the rhinestones is from Stampin' Up! Hokey Pokey (CAS70)

For today's Clean and Simple Challenge, we were to focus on the sentiment. Use a verse, poem, saying or greeting, and focus on that. My sentiment says, "What if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's ALL about?" I like to pair that sentiment with that bear from "Under the Stars." The sentiment is from "Smarty Pants." Neither of these sets will be retiring this time around. The base card is Naturals Ivory and I used the "Woodgrain" background stamp on Creamy Caramel. The sentiment was stamped with Basic Black and I used Close to Cocoa ink for everything else, including the sponging of the "sign". I finished this off with Hemp Twine at the top and paper piercing in the lower left. Everything here is from Stampin' Up! Thanks for stopping by!!!

CASEing nikkischmaltz (FS174)

This is for the Featured Stamper Challenge on SCS. I chose to CASE Nikki's "Smile" pocket card. I made it a horizontal pocket card instead of vertical, but I kept similar colors and layout. Of course, I used a different stamp set and designer paper. The set I used is "Enjoy Every Moment", and it's retiring. The Bali Breeze paper is already retired. The Real Red Polka Dot Ribbon is also retiring, sadly. I'm sure there will be some other polka dot ribbon that I will love. Everything used to make this card is from Stampin' Up! Zebra Birthday (QFTD12)

I don't get a chance to do the Queen for the Day Challenge often, but I searched for it today and found that Connie Jo9 is the Queen today. I was looking for something I could do fairly quickly since I have another appointment to take my daughter for more tests. Here's her Zebra Tea Party card that I chose to CASE. I used some 13 year old designer paper instead of torn card stock, I added another layer of Real Red when I matted the main image, I used balloons from "Family Accessories" instead of the birdie, and I did the sentiment differently. We both used the same stamp from "Zoofari", but I used a sentiment from "Teeny Tiny Wishes" and matted it using the Word Window and Modern Label Punches. Robot Birthday (SC283, TSC0604)

I can't believe I haven't posted here since Monday!! I'm sorry, but I have been taking my daughter to doctor appointments and tests every day this week. She's about 38 weeks along and they've been concerned about how things are going. I'll keep you posted on that.

This week's Twisted Sistahs Challenge is to make a humorous card with bright colors. My grandson will be 7 next month, and I thought this robot with his cute greeting would be perfect for his birthday card. I also think that primary colors are great for a little boy's card. The base card is Basic Black, then there's Brilliant Blue, Glorious Green, Real Red, Yoyo Yellow and Whisper White. I used two of Stampin' Up!'s Impressions Folders for the embossing. I punched out the sentiment with the Word Window Punch. I wish I took a photo of the inside. It has a red envelope that I made with the Mini Envelope stencil. That's to put money in!
