Limited Supplies Challenge (LSC144)

From scrapbooking to cards...I love Fridays! This card was made for the Limited Supplies Challenge which is posted every Friday. We are so used to using all kinds of stamps, layers, goodies, and gadgets that we have a tough time scaling down a bit. This is a great challenge for that. For this LSC, we were only allowed to use miniature stamps, not more than 1-1/2 inch square. We could use any backgrounds, flourishes or borders, and a sentiment was optional. We could use any card stock or designer papers, but we had to LIMIT THE LAYERS! We could also use up to two specialty tools, any coloring tools, and only one type of embellishment. I made mine simple and quick. I just love Bashful Blue, so this birthday card has a Bashful Blue base card. I stamped the Hb (Happy Birthday) from the Party Punches Hostess set with Versamark and embossed with white embossing powder. I punched it out with the Designer Label Punch and then matted it. I used the Horizontal Slot Punch on the ends for the Bashful Blue ribbon. The designer paper is about 15 years old, but it works and I only used one layer!

Stamps: Party Punch Set
Paper: Bashful Blue, Whisper White, unknown dp
Ink: Versamark
Accessories: White EP, Designer Label Punch, Horizontal Slot Punch, Bashful Blue GG Ribbon

Scrapbook Variety Challenge (SBVC04)

I got up very early this morning and just waited for the challenges to be posted. This is a new one for me. It's called a "variety" challenge because it's just not the same every week. This is only the fourth week for this challenge, so no wonder I hadn't seen it before! There were several examples of magazine ads given and we were to be inspired by those ads. What a great idea! To find this on SCS, you have to go to Forums, then Splitcoast Challenges, Scrapbooking, Scrapbook Themes, then to the SBVC list. Whew!

The ad that inspired my little 6 X 6 page is a brightly colored fabric softener ad. My colors aren't so bright as I needed to match a previous page in the scrapbook. I did go with the green and pink though. I used the Spring Bouquet Flower Punch and embossed the flowers for a 3-dimensional look. I also used the Round Tab Punch for the tab with the journaling. Here's a photo of the inspirational ad:

The Thursday challenge at SCS is the "Ways to Use It" Challenge. This one was to use metallic paper. We were told that, if we didn't have any metallic paper, use aluminum foil, so that's what I did! I adhered the foil to a piece of 4" X 5-1/4" card stock, trimmed it, and then embossed it using my Cuttlebug machine and the Hearts embossing folder. I adhered that piece to a Whisper White base card. I stamped the cake ($1 stamp from Michael's) with Stazon Black on Whisper White and did the same with the heart. I colored with Regal Rose marker, cut out the heart, punched the corners of the main image panel, mounted the main image to Regal Rose card stock and adhered the matted piece to the card. The cut out heart is popped up on one dimensional. I added the silver metallic ribbon and bow as a final touch. This will be a great wedding card for our daughter and new son-in-law!
Stamps: Time Well Spent, Mike's $1 stamp
Paper: Whisper White, Regal Rose, Aluminum foil
Ink: Stazon Black, Regal Rose SU! Marker
Accessories: Cuttlebug with Hearts EF, Fancy Corner Punch, Silver Metallic Ribbon, Pig Nose Punch (for end of ribbon and bow)

Scrapbooking Challenge

I've gotten back into scrap booking thanks to some friends of mine who talked me into going to a "Scrap-a-thon" at our local high school. It was a fund raiser to raise money to support the year book. I made a few pages beforehand so that I'd have something to show with SU! stamps and papers. That gave me the scrapping bug! Now, I really look forward to Fridays because of the Scrap Book Sketch Challenge. Last Friday's sketch was fun to do and I was able to show off our daughter and her husband, the newlyweds. I liked the diagonal separation of two DSP's (double sided designer papers). I used my Cricut machine to make the title. The papers are from SU!'s Secret Garden Scrap booking Kit.

Since it was the day after Thanksgiving, two extra sketches were given. The first of the two had a whimsical turkey, some squares across the top and side that looked kind of like quilt squares, and the title said, "Turkey Day". I used Cricut's Animal Kingdom cartridge to make my turkey, I changed the squares to leaves from Thankful Season set, and my title, "Gobble" was from the same Cricut cartridge as the turkey. Yes, that's me stirring the turkey gravy! Then, there's one of my daughters with a neighbor boy, and under that is my mother with my little mutt on her lap. (She spoils that dog!) The papers here are River Rock and Always Artichoke textured card stock for the title strip.

The final sketch given included tags for journaling. The papers are the opposite of the previous page and the leaves were carried forward onto this page to carry the fall theme through. The tags were purchased tags, the ribbons were Chocolate taffeta, and the journaling was done with an acid free brown gel pen. All the photos were taken on Thanksgiving Day and include my hubby, two of my granddaughters hugging, several kids from the neighborhood posing with one of my daughters (second from right), and two of my granddaughters riding scooters.

Ten for Ten Night

A friend of mine and I worked together to have three 10 for $10 nights where we offered ten cards for $10, using five different designs, all Christmas cards. One of the ladies had a hard time with some glue. She didn't realize that the ladies at the other end of the table had left the lid off the "Quick Drying Adhesive". When she got it, she squeezed and squeezed until the nozzle blew completely out! Well, glue went everywhere! It got on her, on me, on some of the cards...what a mess! She was such a good sport about it that I just had to take a couple of photos. Here she is with glue all over the front of her sweatshirt!!!

Here's the nozzle and the glue all over the card she was working on! We cleaned up the mess, and she started those two cards over. It took her a bit longer and she was late getting home that night. I hope she comes back to the next 10 for $10 in January!! Hey, Mindy, we won't use that kind of glue next time, OK? LOL! What a great sport!!! Letting me take these photos and allowing me to put them online is proof of that!!

Sketch Challenge Card

Every Wednesday at SCS, the challenge is to use a particular card sketch. This is my card for the sketch challenge for this week. The flowers are from the new SU! Level 3 Hostess set. There's actually three layers for each of these flowers. I stamped with Versamark and embossed with gold embossing powder (EP). I layered the five petal flower, then the smaller flower that I colored in with Barely Banana marker, and finally the smallest flower in the set. I topped the whole thing off with a gold brad. All the yellow panels were embossed using Cuttlebug embossing folder (EF) D'vine Swirls. I used SU!'s Photo Corner Punch layering both sizes of photo corners. I like the Barely Banana; it looks so springy!

Stamps: Time Well Spent (Hostess Set)
Paper: Barely Banana, Whisper White
Ink: Versamark
Accessories: Cuttlebug Swirls EF, Gold EP, Barely Banana Marker, Gold brads, 1/8 in. satin ribbon, Photo Corners Punch

Color Challenge Card

On Tuesdays at Splitcoaststampers.com (SCS), there is a Color Challenge. This Tuesday, the challenge was to use (Stampin' Up! colors) Basic Grey, Bashful Blue, and Certainly Celery. I called this card "Find Joy" due to the sentiment. The base card is Bashful Blue. The sentiment is stamped with Celery ink on Whisper White card stock, then matted on the Blue, then Celery, and finally, the Grey. All the corners were punched with the Ticket Corner Punch. I stamped the paisley from Polka Dots & Paisley stamp set with Celery on the base card. I colored in the dots in the paisleys with white gel pen. Then, I mounted the matted sentiment panel. I used a strip of the Grey near the bottom, layered half circles punched with the Scallop Circle Punch, layered over that with a strip of Double Sided Designer Paper (DSP),and finally adhered punched flowers from the Three for You Punch that I had embossed. They look like tiny Prima flowers when embossed! I finished it off by doodling on the scalloped half circles.

Stamps: Polka Dots and Paisley
Paper: Bashful Blue, Basic Grey, Certainly Celery, Petals and Paisley DSP
Ink: Certainly Celery
Accessories: Scallop Circle Punch, White gel pen, Three for You Punch, Embossing Stylus, Ticket Corner Punch

Demonstrator Challenge Card

I frequent a website called Splitcoaststampers.com where lots of stampers go to find out what everyone else is doing in the stamping world. At this site, there are card making challenges every day and scrap booking challenges at least once a week. There's even challenges for Stampin' Up! Demos only. Monday's challenge is always a Technique Lovers Challenge. This Monday was to make Clear Sleeve Nugget Boxes. I didn't participate in that one because I didn't have the right supplies. There's also a challenge for Demos on Monday called Demonstrable Cards Challenge. This week, we were challenged to make a masculine card. Now, that IS a challenge! It can be so difficult to make a card that would be appealing to a man. (I guess if I'm going to add photos to this blog, I better become more adept at photography!) I made a "Big Buckle" card for this challenge.
Here's the Recipe: All materials are from Stampin' Up!
Stamps: Noble Deer, Sincere Salutations, Pine Bough Wheel
Paper: Kraft, Naturals Ivory, Handsome Hunter
Ink: Handsome Hunter
Accessories: Word Window Punch
Technique: Big Buckle Card, Distressing

My First Post!!!

Well, here I am...blogging!!! I never thought this would happen! LOL! My main reason for starting this was to give my friends, family, and Stampin' Up! Club members easy access to my cards and scrapbook pages. This way, they can see what I've been up to. Club members can see what I will be demonstrating at our next Club meeting. Family members can view all my scrapbooking pages so I don't have to bore them to death when they visit! I just don't know what I want to post here first: my most recent card creations or my most recent scrapbook pages?
